IL-17A/F

Interleukin-17A/F (IL-17A/F) is a biologically active heterodimer consisting of IL-17A and IL-17F cytokines. These two cytokines belong to the IL-17 family, which also includes IL-17B, IL-17C, IL-17D, and IL-17E/IL-25. IL-17F has 50% sequence homology with IL-17A, the best characterized member of this family. Activity is mediated by binding its receptor, a heterodimer of IL-17RA and IL-17RC, which results in the activation of the Erk1/2 and NF-κB pathways. IL-17A/F stimulates fibroblasts and macrophages, similar to IL-17A/A and IL-17F/F homodimers, to produce proinflammatory proteins. Studies indicate that IL-17A/F may be associated with mucosal immunity in bacterial infections and with autoimmune diseases.
