Macrophage inflammatory protein 1 alpha (MIP-1α/CCL3), also known as Tonsillar lymphocyte LD78 alpha protein, is a chemokine with inflammatory and chemokinetic properties. MIP-1α is produced by different cell types, particularly macrophages, lymphocytes, and dendritic cells in response to a variety of external stimuli. MIP-1α binds to CCR1, CCR4, and CCR5 and similar to MIP-1β, is one of the major HIV suppressive factors produced by CD8+ T-cells. MIP-1α is involved in multiple myeloma, breast cancer, and cystic fibrosis.
