TSLP

Thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) is an IL-7-like, a four helix–bundle cytokine that plays a key role in the growth of B-cells and the proliferation of T-cells. It is an activator of several cell types including dendritic cells and promotes TH2–type immune responses. TSLP functions by binding to a heterodimeric receptor that consists of IL-7Rα and the TSLP receptor chain. TSLP is expressed by epithelial cells of the lungs, heart, and the intestines. The mRNA for TSLP receptor is present on many cell types such as T-cells, B-cells, dendritic cells, mast cells, and monocytes. TSLP has been linked to several human inflammatory diseases, including allergic reaction, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It is suggested that TSLP is also involved in irritable bowel syndrome and other autoimmune diseases.
