Description - NHP interferon α2a (IFNA2, IFNAB; Gene ID: 709948) is part of the interferon-α family, one of three classes of interferons (IFN-α, INF-β, and IFN-γ) with distinct as well as overlapping effects. All interferons are antiviral and tumor fighting agents, but they affect the body differently. The IFN-α group is produced by macrophages and is used mostly to treat cancers and viral infections.

Disease Focus/Application Area - Hairy cell leukemia, AIDS-related Kaposi’s sarcoma, and chronic myelogenous leukemia, oncology.
