The Ser/Thr kinase activity of glycogen synthase kinase-3α (GSK-3α) is inhibited following phosphorylation at Ser21 by Akt in response to growth factor or insulin stimulation of the cell. The inhibition of GSK-3α results in the dephosphorylation and activation of subsrates such as glycogen synthase, eIF-2B, and C/EBPa, resulting in increased glycogen and protein synthesis. This kit provides assay-specific components for the quantitative determination of phospho-GSK-3α (Ser21) in human whole cell lysates.
