von Willebrand Factor (vWF, VWD, F8VWF) is a glycoprotein involved in hemostasis. It forms cross-linked multimeric complexes (~20,000 kDa) that function to help platelets adhere to sites of vascular injury and to transport various proteins. At least one mutation in this protein's gene is defective or deficient with von Willebrand disease. Elevated levels can be caused by various connective tissue diseases and increase the risk of thrombosis. vWF protein has a number of specific functional domains that cause it to bind to many other substructure elements like collagen, integrins, and heparin.
