TRAIL-R3 (LIT, DCR1, TRID, CD263, TRAILR3, TNFRSF10C) is one of three receptors that binds TRAIL, a protein that plays a role in apoptosis. TRAIL-R3 is a truncated version of the TRAIL receptors and by itself is not able to transduce an apoptotic signal. Because of this it is often referred to as a decoy receptor. As TRAIL-R3 is antagonistic to apoptotic cell death, the protein is associated with cellular protection, thereby providing the necessary balance of cell proliferation and death.
