TLR1

Toll-like receptor 1 (TLR1, CD281, TIL, LPRS5) is a member of the Toll-like receptor (TLR) family which plays a fundamental role in pathogen recognition and activation of innate immunity. TLRs recognize pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) that are expressed on infectious agents, and mediate the production of cytokines necessary for the development of an effective immune response. TLR1 has specificity for gram-positive bacteria. The various TLRs exhibit different patterns of expression. TLR1 is ubiquitously expressed, and at higher levels than other TLRs. Particular sites of expression include the gut epithelia where it participates in managing the microbiota, and on macrophages and neutrophils.
