Matrixmetallopeptidase 7 (MMP-7, MPSL1, PUMP-1) is a member of the M10 peptidase family. MMP-7 is a metallopeptidase that breaks down extracellular matrix by cleaving several different proteins and glycoproteins including casein, gelatin, fibronectin and elastin. MMP-7 is involved with tissue remodeling, embryogenesis, and metastasis. It is secreted as an inactive pro-protease and is activated upon cleavage by serum proteases.
