IL-4

Interleukin-4 (IL-4), also known as B-cell stimulatory factor 1 (BSF-1) and lymphocyte stimulatory factor 1 is a glycosylated protein with three intra-chain disulfide bonds. IL-4 is produced by Th2 cells and participates in activation of B-cells and other cell types. IL-4 also stimulates DNA synthesis, and it enhances the expression of IgE and IgG1. IL-4 decreases the production of Th1 cells, macrophages, IFN-γ, and IL-12. It is associated with severe asthma among other disorders.
