HIF-1α

Hypoxia-inducible factor 1 alpha (HIF-1α) is a transcription factor and regulator of homeostatic responses to hypoxia. In mammalian cells growing with reduced concentration of oxygen, HIF-1α helps to restore the oxygen level by inducing erythropoiesis, glycolysis, and angiogenesis. HIF-1α is also involved in glucose metabolism, cell proliferation, and vascularization.
