Gelsolin

Gelsolin (ADF, AGEL, GSN) is a 82-kD calcium binding actin modifier that is an important mediator of filament assembly and disassembly. Gelsolin binds to the plus ends of actin monomers and filaments to inhibit monomer exchange. It is especially important in motile cells like platelets. Gelsolin plays a role in ciliogenesis and podosome formation and inhibits apoptosis through stabilization of the mitochondria.
