GDF-15

Growth Differentiation Factor 15 (GDF-15, PDF, MIC1, PLAB, MIC-1, NAG-1, PTGFB, GDF15) is a member of the TGF-β superfamily and is expressed in a broad range of cell types. GDF-15 acts as a pleiotropic cytokine and is involved in the stress response program of cells after cellular injury. GDF-15 is released at sites of inflammation and regulates macrophage activation. GDF-15 expression in liver can be up-regulated during the injury of organs such as liver, kidney, heart and lung.
