cAMP

Cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP, cyclic AMP or 3'-5'-cyclic adenosine monophosphate) is a second messenger synthesized from ATP by adenylyl cyclase located on the plasma membrane. cAMP is involved in intracellular signaling conveying the cAMP-dependent pathway. Binding of cAMP to protein kinases and subsequent activation of substrate proteins have been implicated in many biochemical processes including regulation of glycogen and lipid metabolism.
