I obtained low spike recovery for the osteopontin assay in the MSD Kidney Injury Panel 1 (rat) Kit. Why is that?

Osteopontin binds to calcium oxalate. If calcium oxalate crystals are present in the urine sample, then the osteopontin concentration will appear to be lower. This phenomenon is observed in ELISA as well as per the following reference:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18478219.
