U-PLEX Human IFN-α2a Assay


MSD offers a range of individual assays utilizing U-PLEX Antibody Sets that provide a rapid and convenient method for measuring biomarkers in complex matrices. The individual assays are offered on MSD GOLD Small Spot Streptavidin Plates and use the same antibody sets and diluents as the U-PLEX multiplex assays. This allows for efficient transfer between the individual assay and a higher throughput multiplex configuration. Typical of assays developed on the MSD platform, the individual assays have high sensitivity, excellent precision, provide up to five-logs of linear dynamic range, and require minimal sample volume. Interferons (IFN) are a family of cytokines that are made and secreted by cells of the immune system in response to viruses, bacteria, parasites, cancer cells or other foreign substances invading the body. IFNs act as an activator of the immune system response to reduce the growth of cancer cells or to eradicate pathogens. There are 3 classes of interferons (IFN-α, INF-β, and IFN-γ) with different as well as overlapping effects. All interferons are antiviral and tumor fighting agents, but they affect the body differently. IFN-αs are produced by macrophages and are used mostly to treat cancers and viral infections. IFN-α2a is an FDA-approved drug for treatment of hairy cell leukemia, AIDS-related Kaposi’s sarcoma, and chronic myelogenous leukemia. The U-PLEX Human IFN-α2a Assay provides the components for the quantitative determination of both natural and recombinant human IFN-α2a in serum, plasma, and cell culture supernatants.
