TGF-β2

Transforming growth factor β2 (LDS4, G-TSF, TGF-beta2) is a member of at least three ligands in the TGF family that are highly pleiotropic and potent cytokines. TGF-β2 is secreted by almost all cell types, and as such its activity is tightly controlled and is largely non-redundant. TGF-β2 is secreted and complexed with two other proteins, LAP and TGFBP, and requires proteolytic cleavage to be active. TGF-β2 plays an extensive role in prenatal development; heart, lung, urogenital, and craniofacial defects are present when TGF-β2 is absent in mice. TGF-β2 is a biomarker for glaucoma, cancer, and developmental disorders.
