Senior Scientific Support Specialist

Seeking a Senior Scientist Support Specialist, for our Gaithersburg, MD location, to improve proprietary immunoassay products by ensuring all technical concerns are properly addressed; respond to technical queries from scientists inside and outside the company; liaise w/ Marketing & Product Development to improve the quality of immunoassay products; and draft technical aspects of product-specific literature.

Requirements:

A MS in genetics, microbiology, biochemistry, pharmacology or other life science field with two years experience is required. Equivalent part-time experience is acceptable.

Scientists will perform research and product development in a variety of areas, including development of multiplexed immunoassays for cancer biomarker discovery, fabrication of proteome arrays, and optimization of multiplexed assays for detection of protein post-translational modifications (e.g. phosphorylation). Applicants should have a proven record of scientific accomplishment, the ability to work productively in a demanding research environment, and a thorough understanding of antibody-antigen interactions, proteins chemistry and basic molecular biology techniques. Assay Development Research Associate – Critical Reagents Group

The candidate must be able to independently design and execute experiments and analyze the resulting data in support of assay development projects. This laboratory position will perform protein-based immunoassays on a routine basis with relatively high throughput (3-10 plates per day) and following or developing SOP’s. The Research Associate will also validate antibodies and standards plus optimize reagent handling, integrity and uniformity with supervision. He/she must be knowledgeable of anti-body antigen interactions, protein chemistry, and protein and/or peptide isolation and purification methods and ideally understand protein immobilization and labeling in the context of ELISA or other immunoassay-based techniques. Complete appropriate documentation to support testing procedures including data capture, forms, logbooks, and inventory batch records, present data tables and figures.

Requirements:
  • BS or MS with a concentration in Cellular and Molecular Biology or Protein Biochemistry
  • Strong research background in protein purification and protein-based immunoassays
  • Two years experience utilizing ELISA, immunoblot, or Western Blot techniques for biomarker assay development or target validation, especially using serum and plasma samples
  • Strong academic record, excellent experimental and analytical skills, and be able to plan experiments, analyze and present data clearly
  • Previous experience in assay development in an industrial setting is a plus

Research Associate - Dev

Support lab functions with a focus on maintenance and troubleshooting of immunoassay products. Primary responsibilities will be assay development, optimization, and troubleshooting in support of manufacturing and quality control. Tasks will include analyzing and preparing assay documentation, organizing and procuring needed reagents, performing immunoassays, analyzing data, and documenting results.

Activities will include regular presentation of results, contribution to scientific efforts of the group, and participation in general lab maintenance including maintaining lab supplies and equipment. Some projects will require running assays with Biosafety Level 2 samples such as human serum and plasma so prior training and experience with BSL2 techniques is desirable.

Understanding and following laboratory safety precautions and proper use of personal protective equipment. The successful candidate will gain exposure to a wide variety of products and have an opportunity to develop and contribute in an exciting area of growth.

Requirements:
  • BS degree in biochemistry, chemistry, biotechnology, or other related area.  An MS degree is beneficial but not required
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working in a research or clinical environment, preferably in a lab where attention to detail, repeatability, and documentation are critical
  • Experience running antibody-based assays and product development experience is desirable
  • Detail-oriented and careful about record-keeping but also efficient in completing assignments
  • Experience with standard data analysis tools (Excel, GraphPad Prism) and have the quantitative background to advance this knowledge on the job
  • Experience writing scientific summary reports of experiments
  • Will be handling BL2 samples and work in a Biological Safety Cabinet (training will be provided if necessary)
  • Candidates should have a basic understanding of the biology and chemistry that underlies immunoassays

Assay Development Scientist - Investigational Toxicology

Responsible for product development efforts in the toxicology area. Review preclinical/clinical scientific literature related to toxicology while managing one or more research associates and/or junior scientists.

Requirements:
  • A minimum of six years experience in a research laboratory environment
  • A PhD degree in toxicology, biochemistry, chemistry, biotechnology, pathology, or a related area
  • An understanding of the biology and chemistry that underlies immunoassays
  • Hands-on experience with immunoassay optimization and trouble-shooting
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on method development projects, design experiments and analyze the resulting data , and write reports
  • Experience running assays for biomarkers in serum, plasma, and urine is also required
  • GLP experience and experience with biomarkers of acute kidney injury, cardiovascular disease, or neurotoxicity are desirable
  • A certification by the American Board of Toxicology would be a plus
