Engineering Scientist/Product Development Engineer

MSD is looking to hire an engineering scientist / product development engineer. Candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary environment with other scientists and engineers to develop consumables and compact instrumentation for performing nucleic acid and immunoassay measurements. Duties will include working on all aspects of a cartridge-based PCR system such as sample extraction and purification, on-board storage of liquid and dry reagents, cartridge material and surface treatment selection, and the instrument interface. Previous experience with nucleic acid extraction and PCR amplification in a disposable format is required. Proven hands-on technical ability is a must. Programming skills and knowledge of data acquisition equipment is a plus. Candidate must have excellent analytical and communication skills. A PhD or Masters in engineering, biochemistry, applied science or related field with two years relevant experience is required.

Research Associate (06-R&D-004)

MSD is looking for a Research Associate to carry out experiments in support of assay development projects. Qualified candidates will have earned a B.S or M.S. in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, biotechnology, or other related area, and have greater than 3 years of industry experience in a research or clinical setting. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who can independently design experiments and analyze data. Candidates should have hands-on experience carrying out assays in microtiter plate format. Immunoassay development experience or experience in a clinical lab or GLP setting would be particularly valuable. Experience working with human serum and other BSL-2 samples is a plus. The candidate should have above-average quantitative analytical skills and be a proficient MS Excel user.

UK Applications Scientist

MSD is looking to hire a UK Applications Scientist. Position will be responsible for: training customers, providing support for biomarker immunoassay kits, assisting customers in the development of new biological assays and helping to expand into new scientific opportunities at customer sites. The candidate must be able to work in an interdisciplinary environment and integrate information between R&D groups and sales and marketing groups to resolve customer issues and expand the customer base through scientific networking. Candidates should have at least 3-5 years of hands-on experience working in a molecular biology lab, clinical lab, discovery lab or biochemistry lab. Candidates preferably would have a Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, biotechnology or other related area. The candidate will be responsible for creating reports and presentations to customers on assays developed with the customer or for the customer. The candidate must be able to travel up to 70% of the time; however, if based in the field, the travel could be as low as 25% of the time. The ideal candidate will be fluent in English, French, and German. The candidate can be based out of the UK or mainland Europe.

Sr. Mechanical Engineer (05-BioD-013)

MSD is looking to hire a Sr. Mechanical Engineer. Candidate will work on a cross-functional team, including team members from a variety of engineering and scientific disciplines. Candidate will have mechanical engineering responsibilities in the development of scientific instrumentation for the biodefense, clinical, and life-science markets that utilize Meso Scale Diagnostics' unique technology. Candidate will have responsibilities in mechanical design, prototyping, testing, and documentation. Candidate will be responsible for creatively designing precision fluidic, optical, and motion control assemblies that include machined, molded, and sheet-metal components using SolidWorks solid modeling software. Candidate will investigate pertinent design factors such as design for manufacture and assembly, material selection, and cost. Furthermore, candidate will conduct or assist in the testing of new products including environmental, reliability, and design verification testing. Candidate will work closely with manufacturing personnel to transfer product designs to full-scale manufacturing. An individual qualifying for this position will have a BS or MS in mechanical engineering with 3+ years (5+ for a Sr. Engineer) of experience in machine design, experience with a wide range of manufacturing processes including injection molding, and will have solid modeling experience preferably with SolidWorks I-DEAS, or Pro/ENGINEER CAD modeling software. Qualified candidate should possess a solid understanding of manufacturing technologies including machining, molding and sheet metal processes, drafting experience, and a solid understanding of GD&T tolerancing practices. Experience with the design of motion control systems and precision mechanical mechanisms is a plus, and medical or scientific product design experience preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

Research Associate

MSD is looking to hire a Research Associate. Candidate will conduct laboratory research in Biodefense-related applications and work closely with scientists to develop products for the detection of biological threat agents and their surrogates in environmental and clinical samples. Duties include assay development, reagent formulations, and instrument testing. Laboratory experience in protein chemistry and immunoassay development is required. Experience working with human tissues and/or infectious organisms under BSL-2 conditions is also preferred. Candidate should be detail oriented, have strong organizational skills, and be able to summarize and present data clearly. A B.S./B.A. or other advanced degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, immunology or other related fields is required.
